 Ginza Sushi

3153 Meridian Ave. in San Jose

Tucked into the corner of the Hacienda Gardens Shopping Center, next to Jack Holders, is Ginza Sushi. There was plenty of outdoor seating, which is a good thing. Inside was nicely decorated with twice as many tables.

Very chill inside and I like it when you can see the chefs making the food. Two big TVs were showing sports and the staff was friendly. My sweetie and I were ready for some yummy food and they did not disappoint. First up, the appetizer!

Edamame with garlic and chili oil ($6) was a firecracker. Unfortunately, Julie thought they had too much of a kick... fortunately for me, I got the lion's share! It's the first time I've had this dish with the spicy sauce and I am a BIG fan! On the hotness scale, it was like a medium salsa - not sweat inducing, but a bit of spice.

Julie's lunch was the Nigiri Mix Special ($25) and was very happy with the freshness and selection. She is a hardcore sushi eater, personally I would eat about half of what was on that plate. She also got a salad and miso soup too.

My dish was my old stand-by: the two-item Bento box. Teriyaki salmon and California rolls ($14.95). Portions were good and everything was tasty. The salad dressing was delicious and this was important. Some Japanese places do a watery, vinegary sauce. This one made the iceberg lettuce very pleasant. And I am happy to report, the orange slices was fresh too.
